Loki season 2 release updates and everything we know so far

Leave it to Loki to make Marvel history! Since the launch of Disney+, there have been close to a dozen live-action Marvel series that have debuted on the streaming platform. However, Loki is the only show thus far that has managed to actually secure a second season.

We can’t say we’re surprised! Loki remains one of the most successful series in the franchise and also lent itself to a second season with the way the story was laid out. After the events of the season 1 finale, fans are in for another exciting season as Loki travels through the multiverse in a battle unlike any he’s faced before!

As we gear up for the second season of the show, we’ve rounded up everything there is to know so far about Loki season 2.

Loki season 2 release date on Disney+

The second season of Loki will premiere on Friday, October 6, 2023. Despite the first season airing on Wednesdays, Disney+ has opted to shift to Friday releases with Loki, meaning new episodes will be arriving every Friday during the show’s run.

If October feels like an unexpected choice, you would not be wrong! Originally, Loki was supposed to return during Summer 2023 with the assumption being that season 2 would premiere sometime in June. However, Disney+ delayed it to October.

As with other Disney+ original shows, new episodes of Loki will be released at 3:00 a.m. EST on Disney+ every Friday. This means fans on the West Coast will be able to enjoy new episodes at 12:00 midnight on Friday.

How many episodes is Loki season 2?

Loki season 2 will consist of six episodes, which has become standard for most Marvel Disney+ shows. The current plan is for new episodes to release weekly, which should result in the following release schedule for the show’s second season:

• Episode 1: Friday, October 6
• Episode 2: Friday, October 13
• Episode 3: Friday, October 20
• Episode 4: Friday, October 27
• Episode 5: Friday, November 3
• Episode 6: Friday, November 10

What is Loki season 2 about?

"Loki Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of the shocking season finale when Loki finds himself in a battle for the soul of the Time Variance Authority. Along with Mobius, Hunter B-15 and a team of new and returning characters, Loki navigates an ever-expanding and increasingly dangerous multiverse in search of Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, Miss Minutes and the truth of what it means to possess free will and glorious purpose.”"

As the above synopsis for the season teases, season 2 of Loki is slated to pick up after the events of season 1 with Loki attempting to help save the multiverse. Season 2 will see Loki teaming up with both new and familiar faces as they navigate the multiverse in a battle for the soul of the TVA!

As expected, almost every key player from season 1 of Loki will be coming back for season 2, and they’ll be joined by some amazing new additions! While we expect the show might have a few surprises up its sleeve, here is the confirmed cast list for season 2:

Is Jonathan Majors in Loki season 2?

While there had been speculation among audiences regarding what the future could hold for Jonathan Majors in Loki season 2 amid the recent controversy the actor has found himself in, we can confirm that Majors will play a key role in the second season of Loki. 

Although it is not yet known how many episodes Majors will appear in, we do know that Majors will return as a Kang variant in season 2 and is expected to have a large role. It has not been revealed how many Kang variants he will be playing in the season, with the only confirmed variant being Victor Timely, a 20th Century variant of Kang.

The first trailer for season 2 offers us our first look at what’s to come, with a lot of easter eggs sprinkled into the trailer which has already been viewed more than 80 million times, a new record for Marvel within the first 24 hours of a trailer’s release.

Thus far, Disney+ has released two posters for Loki season 2. In the first poster for the upcoming second season, we see various Loki variants running in a circle around a stopwatch that features the likeness of Miss Minutes:

In the second poster, Loki is seen front and center with the various characters from the upcoming second season racing along a swirling path around him. Among those featured on the poster are several Loki variants as well as Mobius, Hunter B-15, Sylvie, Judge Renslayer, and Victor Timely:

Loki season 2 directors

Thus far, Marvel has confirmed four directors for the upcoming second season: Justin Benson, Aaron Moorhead, Dan Deleeuw, and Kasra Farahani. It is not yet known which episodes the quartet directed, but we should learn more about who directed each episode of the show as we get closer to the season’s arrival.
