Everything we know about Good Omens season 3

The first season of Good Omens premieres in 2019 on Amazon Prime Video. An adaptation of the book of the same name by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, it tells the story of an unlikely friendship between the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennnat) who team up to prevent the apocalypse.

The first season adapted the whole of the book, so there didn’t seem to be much hope for a second. But we got one anyway. Good Omens season 2 dropped on Amazon on July 28. This time around, it’s even more focused on the relationship between Aziraphale and Crowley, likely taking a few cues from the passionate fandom the two had developed in the meantime.

Season 2 ends on something of a cliffhanger, with Aziraphale accepting a new job in heaven and effectively breaking up with Crowley, who is unwilling to follow him. That means we’re definitely getting a season 3, right? They can’t just leave it there.

Will there be a third season of Good Omens?

Although season 2 certainly sets up more adventures for Aziraphale and Crowley, Amazon has not ordered a third season of the series. Amazon will be looking at how much people watch season 2 before it makes its decision.

Neil Gaiman, who wrote season 2 alongside John Finnemore, cautioned fans that the best thing they can do to ensure that Good Omens gets a third season is to watch the second. He also said that season 3 is “planned and plotted,” so when and if Amazon does order a new season, Gaiman will be ready.

Will the strikes delay Good Omens season 3?

There’s another possible reason we haven’t heard much about Good Omens season 3 as of yet: actors and writers in Hollywood are on strike.

This is making it harder to produce movies and TV shows than usual. Gaiman himself said that he would be writing Good Omens season 3 “right now” if it weren’t for the strikes. So it’s also in the best interests of Good Omens that the strikes resolve. If you’re in a position to support the striking writers and actors, it’s best to do so. The sooner the studios come back to the negotiating table, the better.

What is Good Omens season 3 about?

So I said before that the first season of Good Omens adapted the whole of the book. How, then, did we get new episodes? The source material was used up.

Well, it ends up that Gaiman and Pratchett planned a sequel to Good Omens but never got around to writing it (Pratchett died in 2015). So does that mean that season 2 is an adaptation of the sequel that never was?

Well, no. Gaiman’s plan is to execute on that sequel idea in season 3. Season 2 is more of a bridge to get to that point. So in a way, we haven’t even seen the sequel to Good Omens yet. Now we have to get season 3.

Is there a release date for Good Omens season 3?

Given that the show hasn’t even been renewed yet, it’s unsurprising that there is no release date for Good Omens season 3 as of now. Hopefully that changes.
