Henry Cavill’s 20 best moments as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher

16. The aeschna hunt with Ciri
Geralt and Ciri get plenty of time to bond throughout The Witcher season 3. One of their highlights is the monster hunt for the aeschna, an aquatic creature terrorizing ships crossing the channel to Thanedd. We’ve seen Geralt play the role of the protective father time and again on The Witcher, but the aeschna is the only time we’ve seen him actually coach Ciri through a monster hunt.
At first, Geralt is resistant to hunt the aeschna. But at Ciri’s urging, the pair decide to kill the creature in order to secure passage to Thanedd. Geralt is quietly amused over Ciri’s insistence that both of them are witchers and therefore they should be hunting monsters.
And of course there’s the fight itself. The aeschna comes crashing onto the chain ferry, leaving Geralt and Ciri no choice but to get out their swords and take care of business. The choreography in this fight is fascinating, with Geralt often hanging back in order to let Ciri take the lead. There’s a ton of subtle communication about their relationship. Cavill and Allan, both of whom did all their own stunts for the scene, crush it.
The cherry on top comes after the ferry makes landfall. As Geralt and Ciri debrief, Geralt tells his ward that he’s proud of how she handled herself. It’s one of the best moments for this father-daughter pair.
