4. Geralt and Jaskier fish up the djinn

Jaskier and Geralt’s camaraderie is a huge part of The Witcher no matter the medium. There’s just something charming about the odd coupling between a gruff monster hunter and a flowery bard who can’t stop running his mouth. This was one of the most important character relationships for Netflix to get right, and it did.

Joey Batey is a perfect Jaskier, and a great foil to Cavill’s Geralt. The two shine pretty much anytime they’re onscreen together. But if there’s one moment which perfectly exemplifies their relationship, it’s when Geralt fishes up the djinn while Jaskier cajoles him in Episode 105, “Bottled Appetites.” Batey’s performance carries the scene, but it only works so well because of the grumpy, rude way that Cavill responds to him and sets up all the punchlines. This scene is one of the best examples of Cavill and Batey’s chemistry at work, and remains a joy to watch.

5. Geralt and Yennefer go on a dragon hunt

Geralt and Yennefer’s first meeting in “Bottled Appetites” is a key scene in Andrzej Sapkowski’s short story “The Last Wish.” The show didn’t quite give it the same gravity that it gets in the books, but it made up for it in the following episode, “Endangered Species,” which gave viewers a deep exploration of Geralt and Yen’s relationship while they were taking part in a dragon hunt.

This episode gave us a few crucial moments for The Witcher’s leading couple. The first is when they retreat to Yennefer’s tent partway through the hunt. Inside, they finally discuss their feelings for one another in a heartfelt scene that contains a ton of information about how their on-again-off-again relationship progressed following their initial meeting. Henry Cavill and Anya Chalotra show a vulnerability in this scene that makes it stand out.

After that, there’s the chaotic battle at the dragon’s nest, where Geralt and Yennefer mix it up in a fight together for the first time. They even kiss mid-combat.

If only things were meant to last. The episode leaves them on a bitter note, separating ways for the time being. “Endangered Species” has a lot of character development for their relationship, and since it sticks pretty strictly to the short story “The Bounds of Reason,” it gives Chalotra and Cavill plenty of room to flex their acting chops. For Geralt and Yennefer, this is the both the highest and lowest point of their season 1 relationship delivered in one episode.
