The Wheel of Time, Amazon’s adaptation of Robert Jordan’s beloved novel series, returns for a second season in just a few weeks. There will be eight episodes in season 2, the same as in season 1. I’d prefer the seasons to be a little longer so I can get into the journey, but as long as the new episodes are good, I’ll make do. And it’s great to see The Wheel of Time finally get an adaptation in the first place.

Season 2 will premiere on September 1. And we’re getting more than we expected. Today, the official Wheel of Time Twitter account revealed that the first three episodes will all drop at once. Prepare to binge:

Amazon to burn off three episodes of The Wheel of Time season 2 at once

Okay, I’m just going to go on a little get-off-my-lawn rant for a moment: personally, I wish fewer shows did this, and not just because it makes covering the premiere week harder. Releasing new seasons of TV one episode at a time over a period of weeks is fun for me as a viewer, because I get to watch one episode, wonder what might happen next, maybe talk with other fans about it, and generally enjoy the experience for longer. Dropping multiple episodes at once means that people are less likely to watch concurrently and therefore less likely to engage in discussion, since everyone is watching at different rates. And for Amazon, it means a smaller window where people are talking about the show.

The Wheel of Time only has eight episodes per season, which is fewer than other big genre dramas like The Last of Us and House of the Dragon. If I were Amazon, I’d want to make those eight episodes last as long as possible. But again, that’s just me.

Whatever the release schedule, we’ll be watching The Wheel of Time season 2 when it premieres on September 1.

Next. The Wheel of Time season 2 will have “one of the biggest battles ever”. dark
