Is Good Omens season 3 cancelled?
By WiC Staff
The second season of Good Omens season 2 is out now on Amazon! The season ends on a cliffhanger, with the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant) seemingly parting ways. Can’t wait to see how season 3 follows up on that!
…if we get a season 3, that is. Unfortunately, that’s not guaranteed, although creator Neil Gaiman has said that he already knows how it would go. “As we were heading into Season 2, we planned everything so that we could go smoothly into making Season 3,” Gaiman wrote on his blog. “Amazon wouldn’t commission two seasons, we would have to bring out the audience for Season 2, but everything was planned and set. One reason for shooting in Bathgate instead of London was the relative cheapness of being able to keep our set up between seasons.”
"The strikes have upended that plan a little. At best, they may delay it; at worst, it’s possible that we won’t get the viewing figures or something, and it might not happen at all."
If Good Omens isn’t renewed, Neil Gaiman will write a book detailing what would have happened in season 3
So to be clear, Good Omens has not been cancelled. But it hasn’t been officially renewed for a third season either. It’s currently in limbo, awaiting news of its fate.
Obviously we all want to see more of Aziraphale and Crowley. The best things fans can do is spread the word about the new episodes so lots of people watch and Amazon feels compelled to make another season. However, with both actors and writers on strike in Hollywood, it will take a while for work to begin on season 3 even if Amazon renews the show.
If the worst should happen and Good Omens doesn’t come back for season 3, Gaiman has a backup plan: “If that became a thing, I’d definitely write the book.” So we’ll get some version of what comes next regardless.
