The Wheel of Time season 2 will have “one of the biggest battles ever”

We’re less than a month away from the premiere of The Wheel of Time season 2, which means the time has come to start mentally preparing for the next chapter in Prime Video’s fantasy saga. Based on the hit fantasy book series by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time follows a group of young people who are swept away from their sleepy village by the Aes Sedai Moiraine (Rosamund Pike) to join the fight against the Dark One.

Season 1 ended with the revelation that one of those people, Rand al’Thor, is a reincarnated hero known as the Dragon Reborn who is destined to either save the world or tear it asunder. As fans of the books know, this is only the beginning. With 14 massive novels in the series and one prequel book, Rand and friends have quite a journey ahead.

The Wheel of Time season 2 is set to adapt events from the second and third books in the series, The Great Hunt and The Dragon Reborn. It sounds like things are going to get pretty epic; executive producers Marigo Kehoe and Sanaa Hamri have compared the scale and scope of season 2 to historical dramas like Cleopatra and Gladiator, saying it will feature “one of the biggest battles ever.”

The Wheel of Time season 2 finale “will take the series to new heights”

These quotes come from the latest issue of SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar+). It sounds like this battle is going to come in the finale for season 2, which will feature crazy stunts, high stakes, and spectacle that “will take the series to new heights.”

Hamri directed half of the episodes for season 2, including the finale. “There are times when I had six cameras going at the same time,” she said. “When I met with [showrunner] Rafe [Judkins], we talked about the vision for season two and about more action, more deep, nuanced character work, as well as strong imagery. When you have a great season one base, you can really jump off of that and take some really great visual chances, and also within the acting of it all.”

What battle awaits in The Wheel of Time season 2?

Getting into SPOILERS for a minute, we can’t pass up the opportunity to speculate a little bit about what battle Hamri is referring to. The obvious one is the battle of Falme, which happens at the end of The Great Hunt. Falme is one of the most intricately crafted battle sequences in The Wheel of Time book series, featuring a slew of important character moments interspersed with big action scenes.

However, if The Wheel of Time season 2 is also pulling in material from The Dragon Reborn, it’s worth noting that that book also features an important battle at the end, this one at the Stone of Tear. Maybe The Wheel of Time season 2 will combine elements from both of them?
