Casting rumors surrounding Marvel’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie have been coming fast and furious recently. For instance, House of the Dragon star Matt Smith was said to be in the running to play Reed Richards, but his agent quietly played down such rumors. The most recent actor to be named is The Boys star jack Quaid (Hughie). Does this rumor have any more substance?

For many months now, Quaid has been ardently denying any involvement in the Fantastic Four movie, where he’s allegedly portraying Johnny Storm, aka the Human Torch. Quaid reaffirmed his stance on X (formerly Twitter), addressing his fans personally: “Hello everyone,” he wrote. “Nope. Not playing Johnny Storm but hey I’m flattered.” He went on to encourage his fans to donate to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, in support of the actor’s strike.

I mean, he could be messing with us. This wouldn’t be the first time something like this has happened; just look back to Andrew Garfield’s steadfast denial that he was appearing in Spider-Man: No Way Home. That said, Quaid only squashed rumors that he was playing Johnny Storm, and not that he’s gotten a role in the MCU. According to trusted reporter Grace Randolph on Twitter/X, Quaid is involved in Fantastic Four… but just not in the role we all think.

So if this is true, who will he be playing? Let’s stick to one rumor at a time.

The Boys pokes fun at Fantastic Four rumors
