We’re closing in on the release date for Ahsoka, the next Star Wars series hitting Disney+. The character of Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) is beloved in the Star Wars fandom. She first appeared in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, featured in Star Wars Rebels, and finally made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian.

Ahsoka has some strong connections to characters from the original and prequel trilogies, including Anakin Skywalker, her former master from back when she was still a Jedi padawan.

We’ve known for more than a year that Anakin Skywalker would be appearing in some capacity in Ahsoka. Disney centers Anakin in the latest trailer for the series, which features a brand new voiceover from none other than Hayden Christensen himself.

Anakin Skywalker gives Clone Wars-era Ahsoka some advice in new trailer

“Everyone in the order knew Anakin Skywalker. Few would live to see what he became,” says Baylan Skoll (Ray Stevenson), as we see scenes of Anakin and his Sith alter ego Darth Vader flash across the screen.

Christensen’s voice steals the show in the trailer: “In this war, you will face more than just droids. As your master, it’s my responsibility to prepare you. I won’t always be there to look out for you.”

Ahsoka was Anakin’s student during the Clone Wars. This advice sounds to me like something he would have said to her during that time period. Maybe it’s a memory or a flashback? Either way, it’s exciting to hear Christensen’s voice in this new series. Between Ahsoka and Obi-Wan Kenobi, which heavily featured Christensen’s Vader, he’s having a Star Wars renaissance.

If I’m being honest, I can’t help but arch an eyebrow at Disney’s choice to feature Christensen’s voice in in this sort of casual way. Hopefully that means he’ll have a big role on this new show.

We won’t have to wait long to find out. The first two episodes of Ahoska drops on August 23 on Disney+.
