Jason Momoa discourages people from visiting Maui during relief efforts

The Hawaiian island of Maui has been decimated by wildfires. Celebrities like Jason Momoa are advising concerned people on what (and what not) to do.
Over the past week, wildfires have ripped through the Hawaiian island of Maui, devastating the town of Lahaina. According to NBC News, the death toll currently stands at 93, breaking a U.S. record previously set by the Camp Fire in California in 2018, which killed 85 people. Authorities expect to find more dead in the coming days.
Hawaii governor Josh Green said the damages are in the range of $6 billion, and that the fire was likely to be the largest natural disaster in the state’s history. Authorities are using hotels to house refugees and airlines have dropped fares to help with evacuation. With that in mind, people who may be thinking of vacationing in Hawaii at the moment are encouraged to stay away, and those who already had plans to change them.
Game of Thrones veteran Jason Momoa, who was born in Honolulu, is one of the stars helping to spread that message, as he posted on his Instagram:
"Maui is not the place to have your vacation right now. DO NOT TRAVEL TO MAUI. Do not convince yourself that your presence is needed on an island that is suffering this deeply. If you were planning on traveling to Maui in the near future, cancel your trip. Our community needs time to heal, grieve, and restore. That means the less visitors on island taking up critical resources that have become extremely limited the better."
Instead, Momoa encourages people to donate to the Hawaii Community Foundation Maui County Strong Fund, which is providing disaster relief to Maui. If you’re interested in helping with relief efforts, you can find more information on the organization’s website.
