The next Aquaman movie, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, is scheduled to come out next year. Jason Momoa will return as the title character and Amber Heard will be back as Mera, although there are plenty of fans who wish she weren’t. After Heard separated from husband Johnny Depp, she got a lot of backlash online, and some fans have recast the role of Mera in their minds.

One of the most popular imagined replacements is Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen on the HBO show. Some artists, like the talented diiegodesigner, have even mocked up images showing us what that might look like:

It’s busy being both queen of the Seven Kingdoms and the Seven Seas.

Unless we get thrown a huge curveball, Clarke will not star in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Heard will be back, although I wouldn’t surprised if her screentime had been cut down, as the studios are sensitive to online backlash.

But after that, who knows? Jason Momoa might be one of the few actors to continue on in the DC Cinematic Universe under new bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran, and there’s always the possibility of more Aquaman movies down the road.

But for now, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is due out in theaters on December 20, 2023.
