David Harbour (Hopper) teases “moving” end to Stranger Things
By Ashley Hurst
Fans of Netflix’s Stranger Things, prepare yourselves for an emotional rollercoaster of a final season! As we get closer to the final episodes of the the ‘80s-set paranormal sci-fi show, the cast continues to tease an emotional endgame. The show has already broken our hearts in so many ways; what are they going to do to us now?
Of course, progress on the fifth and final season of Stranger Things has slowed to a halt as a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, as Hollywood creatieves demand better pay from streaming shows and gaurdrails on the use of artificial intelligence. Creators Matt and Ross Duffer have put their pens down in solidarity. “We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then — over and out,” they posted on Twitter/X earlier this year.
David Harbour (Hopper): Stranger Things 5 is “bigger than anything we’ve done”
Every season of the show seems to up the ante and raise the stakes. Teasing the final season, star David Harbour expects it to be bigger and better than ever, resulting in significantly longer shoot days.
“It’ll take a while to shoot, which will be tough since we can’t get started yet, but it is what it is,” Harbour told the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “I’m excited to go back. I’m excited to wrap it up in a bold, amazing way, and I’m excited to really swing with this character. Because you know that they’re really going to pay off these OG characters — Eleven, Hopper, Will, Joyce, Mike — they’re going to pay them off in big ways, because they’ve lived with you for the past eight years.”
"It’s a hell of an undertaking, too. I mean, the set pieces and the things in the scripts that we saw are bigger than anything we’ve done in the past."
Will Stranger Things 5 continue where season 4 ended?
Stranger Things season 4 ended on a huge cliffhanger: Just as the group thought they had defeated the malevolent Vecna, the hellish Upside Down landscape started to spill into the quaint town of Hawkins. In other words, things have gone from bad to worse.
“You’ve got to imagine where it starts after Season 4 ended,” Harbour teased. Whether season 5 begins exactly where the previous season ended or if there’s a short time jump, we’ll have to wait and see!
Given how the Hollywood strikes have affected progress on the final season, we’re unlikely to see it air until sometime in 2025. When it does arrive, expect plenty of gut punches.
