HBO continues to film the second season of House of the Dragon, Hollywood strikes be damned. At the moment, they’re doing a ton of work in Bourne Woods in England, where they’re shooting a key sequence: the Battle at Rook’s Rest. They’ve been at work there for a while now, as well they should; this is a complicated sequence that will serve as a major set piece in the middle of the season.

But of course, there are other scenes to film. According to Twitter account @housethedragons, they’ve found a set in Bordon, England. It looks like some tents in a desert-type environment:

Now, if you’re like me, your first reaction to these images was, “There are palm trees in England?” Apparently yes, albeit only in certain locations, and they’re not the same kind of palm trees that grow in proper tropical locales. You learn something new every day.

So what might go down on this set? Well, nothing as spectacular as the Battle of Rook’s Rest over in Bourne Woods, that’s for sure. This was probably a much smaller scene.

Over on Reddit, fans speculate that this could be the setting for a meeting between members of the Triarchy, an alliance of three cities on Essos; you may remember that Corlys Velaryon and Daemon Targaryen went to war with them early in the first season of House of the Dragon. Without giving away spoilers, they will be back in season 2, and we can see them meeting under some palm trees, possibly with Otto Hightower serving as chief negotiator. In the books, he attempts to win the Triarchy over to the side of the greens, knowing that they’re still mad at Corlys and Daemon over what happened during the War for the Stepstones.

Other options exist, of course. Dorne is the closest thing Westeros has to a tropical area hospitable to palm trees, so maybe we’ll pay it a visit. We’ll find out for sure when House of the Dragon season 2 premieres on HBO and Max sometime in 2024.
