Outlander fans are in the midst of a Droughtlander that will hopefully be the shortest yet. While there is no premiere date for Season 7, Part 2 as of yet, it has been teased that we can expect new episodes in early 2024. That isn’t too far away, right?

As we all saw, the first half of season 7 was jam-packed, and left us with many questions we hope get answered when Outlander returns next year. However, there are some questions that are being answered right now.

Outlander executive producer Maril Davis spoke to Express.co.uk and shared some major updates on if characters like Marsali (Lauren Lyle) and Fergus (Cesar Domboy) will appear in the second half of Season 7. You probably won’t like the answer.

Will Marsali and Fergus return for Outlander Season 7, Part 2?

Unfortunately, Davis confirmed that Marsali and Fergus will not be in Season 7, Part 2. “No unfortunately, we’ll not see Marsali and Fergus this season,” she said. “You know, Lauren was busy with a couple of other things as was Cesar so you know that was purposely in talking with those actors and where we decided to take this season, we don’t see their stories unfortunately.”

The last time we saw Marsali and Fergus was in season 6 when they left Fraser’s Ridge. They had decided to leave to find a better life for their children, including Henri-Christian, who had been dealing with settlers saying his dwarfism was a punishment from God. Fergus was overcome with shame and attempted to take his own life, but Jamie stopped him and arranged a new start for him in New Bern.

The couple hasn’t been referenced much in season 7, so the expectation is that if we do see them again, then it would be in the final season. It is unclear when that season would even air, particularly with the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes still ongoing. Stay tuned for more updates in the near future!

Outlander producers haven’t quite figured out the ending yet

Davis also spoke to RadioTimes.com recently about how Outlander will conclude its story in its eighth and final season. Here’s what she had to say:

"We’ve talked to [Outlander author Diana Gabaldon] a bit. Once we figure out how the actual ending is going to be – which we don’t totally have yet – I think we’ll run it by her and make sure she’s OK with it. I’ve asked her about things that we want to do to make sure she’s OK. The last thing we want to do is step on Diana’s toes, she’s been so lovely and supportive of this series and so thrilled with how it’s gone. We want to repay her and be respectful of her, do her books justice. But also, she’s always felt like the books are hers and the show is something different and I love that about her, she gives us that freedom also to take chances and risks and do things slightly differently. […]"

Of course, Gabaldon herself is still working on how she wants to end the Outlander novel series. This could mean some improvisation and collaboration when it comes to planning the perfect ending. “We will of course run things by her, it will have to be slightly different, obviously, because she’s ending it and she hasn’t figured that out yet – what that it is – and we’re going to have to end the TV show. I’m excited about it but we have a few surprises up our sleeve,” Davis said.

Does that remind anyone of another show that had a similar fate? Let’s hope that Outlander doesn’t follow in the footsteps of Game of Thrones!
