The other day, Netflix dropped a trailer for Rebel Moon, a new sci-fi epic from Justice League director Zack Snyder. Actually, there’s going to be two movies, because if Snyder is known for doing anything, it’s going big:

The movie is about a powerful, tyrannical government enforcing its will on the ordinary people of the galaxy. When they target the moon of Veldt, a former member of the Imperium named Kora (Sofia Boutella) rallies various warriors to make a stand.

One of those warriors is her friend Gunnar, played by Michiel Huisman, who Game of Thrones fans might remember as Daenerys Targaryen’s lover Daario Naharis. Months before the actors strike went into effect, he talked to Screenrant about the surreal experience of going from working on the Apple TV+ series Echo 3 to working on Snyder’s Rebel Moon.

“It was an amazing opportunity, and, of course, very different experience,” Huisman said. “I ended up going literally from shooting Echo 3 to Los Angeles to prep for Rebel Moon, and it was a bit of a shock. You going from shooting a scene on a little island to stepping into the world that is Zack Snyder’s. Imagine big sets, and yes, it’s a very different working environment, but how amazing to be able to do both.”

Echo 3 was a military thriller show, which isn’t completely dissimilar from the Star Wars-esque story of Rebel Moon, but it didn’t have the same sense of scale.

Huisman talked about this towards the start of the year. He didn’t want to give away plot details, saying he’s sure they’d be talking closer to release. Of course, that was before the actors strike, so now the movie is going to have to talk for itself.

The first Rebel Moon movie, A Child of Fire, comes out on Netflix on December 22. The second, The Scargiver, is out on April 19.
