The prospect of an Outlander movie gives fans like me all the joy in the world. While this world continues to expand through the books and the planned future spinoffs, doesn’t the thought of a movie put a smile on your face?

As fans wait for the next half of season 7, premiering in 2024, we are also curious about what comes next. The flagship series will close with season 8. There is already a prequel show in the works, Blood of My Blood, which follows Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) parents. Could a movie also be in the works?

Executive producer Maril Davis spoke to RadioTimes.com about the possibility and sounds totally on board with the idea. However, there are some factors to consider before it becomes a reality.

Will there be an Outlander movie?

“That won’t be something we’d do immediately but in the future, if the writers were up for it, if Sony and Starz, if Caitríona and Sam, Sophie and Richard – if everyone was up for it and it felt like the right thing to do,” said Davis.

A lot of this is also contingent on what happens with Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novel series. “Obviously whatever Diana does in book 10, if we haven’t tread in that same territory, sure. I’d never say never,” Davis said.

So, to answer this question, there aren’t plans for a movie right now, but it doesn’t sound like it is completely off the table either. That’s something, right?

Outlander boss wants Jamie and Claire to find peace in the end

Before we can really think about the possibility of a movie, the show still has a final season to film. Given the writers and actors strike, everything is currently on hold, so who knows when work on that will start?

But if it was up to Davis, she imagines Jamie and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) ending the series living somewhere pleasant like Hawaii, relaxing and kicking back after all the chaos of their life. Honestly, I love that for them.

“I keep saying I’d love to see them in Hawaii because I’d like to go there and see them on a beach somewhere sipping piña coladas. I just want peace,” Davis said. “I think we always kind of kid that wherever Jamie and Claire go, trouble follows them, and it would be nice to see them at peace somewhere, wherever that is. And that they’ve got their family with them and they can take a breath finally and not feel as though war or death or killing is nipping at their heels. I’d like to see them in a happy place.”

I think all Outlander fans would love to see Jamie and Claire finally have some peace and quiet. For now, things are far from peaceful. We last left off with Roger (Richard Rankin) traveling through the stones to rescue his son Jemmy, who was kidnapped by Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton). Meanwhile, back in the past, Jamie, Claire, and Young Ian (John Hunter Bell) arrived in Scotland. There is a strong chance that they may run into Roger there. Will Brianna (Sophie Skelton) stay in the present while the rest of her family lives in the past? Will everyone ever reunite?

I have so many burning Outlander questions, but alas, we must wait until 2024 to have them answered. In the meantime, you can head to Starz and rewatch all the seasons to experience the magic and beauty of one of the most amazing shows ever.
