The second season of The Wheel of Time is about to air on Amazon Prime Video. The Amazon show has won the series a new crop of fans, but others have been waiting to see this story depicted onscreen for decades. Over the course of 15 years, Robert Jordan published 12 books in this series, and after he died, Brandon Sanderson wrote three more, working off Jordan’s extensive notes. The final Wheel of Time book, A Memory of Light, came out in 2013, 23 years after The Eye of the World first graced bookshelves in 1990.

So fans have had a lot of time to love this series, and some have gone the extra mile and gotten it tattooed on their skin. Ahead of the season 2 premiere, let’s look at some of the epic Wheel of Time tattoos out there:

The great serpent and the wheel of time

Probably the most popular Wheel of Time tattoo we’ve come across is an image of three overlapping rings. Look a little closer, and you’ll see that the rings are formed by a snake and a wheel:

"Joined the WoT tattoo army! [No Spoilers] by u/LittleMissHenny in WoT"

"Joined the tattoo club just in time for tonight’s episode. by u/Borthwick in WoT"

The snake represents the great serpent, a symbol of the eternal and cyclic nature of time. Aes Sedai sorceresses all wear great serpent rings to mark them as part of the powerful order.

"Got a new tattoo last week by u/Crepe_Cod in WoT"

The wheel, of course, is the wheel of time itself, which represents more of less the same thing. The image of the two of them intertwined appear at the top of many chapters in the books.

"Got my first ever tattoo. Figured some fellow fans would appreciate it. by u/kirankp89 in WoT"

Some tattoos combine the ring symbol with something else, like this sick tattoo featuring a depiction of the dragon:

"My Wheel of Time tattoo, 2 weeks healed by u/HontonoKershpleiter in WoT"

Speaking of the dragon…
