Let’s dreamcast Max’s new Harry Potter TV show
Martin Freeman as…Professor Quirrell
The stuttering turban-wearing Professor Quirrell acts as the first Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher that Harry and his classmates encounter at Hogwarts. Although he seems very out of place in this role because of his timid nature, he has dark secret: what remains of Lord Voldemort is growing out the back of his head, which is why he wears a turban all the time. Harry is able to defeat them at the end of the first book, when they’re trying to obtain an object called the Sorcerer’s Stone to help restore Voldemort to power.
Martin Freeman could crush this role. His portrayal of Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit movies shows he can pull off timid. But Freeman can also bring some bite. I could imagine him being pretty scary in the last scene where he gets killed by Harry.
With more screentime available, there is an opportunity to go into Quirrell’s mental and physical state; what does carrying around Voldemort on the back of your head do to you? I would also enjoy seeing exactly how Quirrell found the dark lord and made this sort of deal with the devil in the first place.
Jefferson Hall as…Gilderoy Lockhart
Jefferson Hall is best known for his roles in the Game of Thrones universe: as Ser Hugh of the Vale and as the Lannister twins Jason and Tyland in House of the Dragon. In those roles, he plays a wannabe ladies man who comes across as an annoying jerk. And that’s exactly what the role of Gilderoy Lockhart calls for.
Lockhart is the second Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in the story, and he is an absolute fraud. He brags about going on countless adventures and being a badass when in reality it was other people who did the heroic deeds and Lockhart took the credit after wiping their memories. This will be a fun role to watch no matter who gets cast, because it’s an excuse for an actor to turn their jerk level up to 11, and we’ve already seen Hall do an excellent job of that.
Jeremy Irons as…Ollivander
There’s really not much that goes into playing Ollivander, the proprietor of Ollivander’s Wand Shop in Diagon Alley. He only shows up in a handful of scenes in the movies, mostly in the very beginning and the very end of the series. He’s a quirky old guy who’s very passionate about magic wands. You can pretty much pick any older British actor to play him, so why not one of the very best? Jeremy Irons is brilliant in almost everything he’s in, and Ollivander would be a great role to add to his illustrious catelog.
