Let’s dreamcast Max’s new Harry Potter TV show
Tommy Flanagan as…Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody
Tommy Flanagan is perfect for this role, and his performance as Chibs in Sons of Anarchy is proof of why. Not only is Chibs a loyal enforcer for main character Jax Teller, he is a leader and capable soldier. Likewise, Alastor Moody is unfailingly loyal towards Dumbledore. When Dumbledore dies, Moody becomes the leader of the Order of the Phoenix, just like Chibs becomes the president of SAMCRO after Jax Teller’s death.
Perhaps most important is that Flanagan has the look to play the grizzled wizard. The scars on Flanagan’s face are real; he got them early in life in Scotland. He’s a bigger guy and will easily fill out Moody’s iconic trench coat. Moody is a character who commands respect and can be very intimidating, which we’ve seen Flanagan do time and time again on Sons of Anarchy.
Chiwetel Ejiofor as…Kingsley Shacklebolt
Kingsley Shacklebolt is an underrated character, and the Max show could dive deeper into his history than the movies did. When he is first introduced, he works for the Ministry of Magic as an Auror but is secretly a mole who feeds information to the Order of the Phoenix. He fights against the Death Eaters in the battle at the Department of Mysteries and the Battle of Hogwarts. After the war, Shacklebolt becomes the Minister of Magic and works closely with Harry and Hermione to get rid of corruption.
I think there’s an opportunity to show the strain that this kind of work would put on Kingsley. George Harris gave an excellent performance in the movies, but the TV show could explore sides to his characters we have yet to see. Chiwetel Ejifor has several Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for his dramatic, making him more than capable of playing this role.
