In the Streaming Wars, it’s kill or be killed. You need allies in this game. That’s why this is good news for Max: according to TheWrap, several AMC shows will be available to stream on Max starting September 1, at no extra cost to subscribers.
That said, the shows will go away on October 31, but it’s still a nice boost. Series like Interview With The Vampire, Dark Winds, Gangs of London, Fear the Walking Dead, Killing Eve, A Discovery of Witches and Ride with Norman Reedus will all be available to watch via a promotional pop-up tile called “AMC+ Picks on Max.”
“Subscribers turn to Max to find a deep and diverse selection of stories for the whole household,” said Warner Bros. Discovery executive Meredith Gertler. “The AMC+ collection pop-up is an excellent example of how we can use innovative strategies to add value to our content offering.” That’s some quality corporate speak, Meredith, thank you.
The more streaming services consolidate content, the better
It’s hard to tell if this is a move by AMC to increase interest in its AMC+ streaming service, or the start of a longer-term alliance with another, more successful streamer. AMC+ has around 12 million subscribers while Max has almost 100 million. Teaming up with Max might not be a bad idea, especially if it means one fewer streaming service viewers have to sort through.
On the other hand, AMC isn’t giving away everything. Fear the Walking Dead and Ride With Norman Reedus are available, but not The Walking Dead proper. Big series like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul aren’t part of the deal.
Still, this is a nice bonus for Max subscribers. And if it turns into something more long-term, all the better.
