The second season of The Wheel of Time will soon be out on Amazon Prime Video. The show is based on a massive book series written by Robert Jordan with an assist from Brandon Sanderson towards the end, after Jordan passed. It takes us to a sprawling world full of swords and sorcery. But is it okay for kids to watch?

That depends on the age of the kids. The official rating for The Wheel of Time is 14+, meaning that it’s appropriate for anybody over the age of 13. So while most teenagers can watch it, it might be too intense for the tweenage set.

That sounds about right to me. The show features some intense situations, battles, and romances, but we don’t see anything terribly explicit. There are fights, but no one’s getting their arms chopped off or anything grisly like that. There’s some sex, but there isn’t much, and we’re not seeing any naughty bits. Teenagers should be able to handle the show just fine.

The Wheel of Time age rating

If there’s any deterrent for teenagers interested in The Wheel of Time, it’s that the show may feel a little slow to them at times, as there are plenty of scenes where characters just talk. But they usually do it on beautiful sets and locations, so at least there’s something interesting to look at.

Interestingly, the show is a bit more explicit than the books. In particular, there’s a bit more sex on the TV show, but not so much that it’s going to put anyone off. There was plenty of sex implied in the books, but the show goes a bit further.

The Wheel of Time season 2 premieres on Friday, September 1 on Amazon Prime Video. The first three episodes will drop all at once.
