There have been some Outlander characters missing in action from the series’ seventh season. Two of the most obvious are Lauren Lyle’s Marsali and César Domboy’s Fergus. We last saw them in season 6 when they decided to leave Fraser’s Ridge to find a better life for their family.

Since leaving, we haven’t seen the couple and don’t have any updates on how they are doing. Sadly, we won’t be getting any news in the second half of Season 7 either, according to Lyle, who spoke to Digital Spy about a potential return.

Will Lauren Lyle return to Outlander?

According to Lyle, neither Marsali nor Fergus will be in the second half of Outlander season 7. But if she was asked to return for the eighth and final season, Lyle said she would “absolutely” come back.

“I love Marsali. She was the character that changed my life. I feel like I’ve grown up on the show a little bit and I deeply love everyone on it, and I love the production, and I love our little family of four children that we have at the age of like twenty-something, and how we just pop them out seamlessly, and it’s just wonderful,” said Lyle. “I love César and I think he feels the same way. We both feel very connected to our characters, and especially with the fans. It feels like we’ve grown up with these fans.”

In Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novel series, Marsali doesn’t have a significant role. However, Marsali won over the hearts of many fans and quickly became a fan favorite. As a result, she was “much more written up in the series.” This is something Lyle is incredibly grateful for and why she’d “definitely do more.”

As for whether or not this will actually happen remains to be seen. I know that I’m amongst the fans who would absolutely love to see Lyle and Domboy come back, as I loved Marsali and Fergus. They had an amazing family dynamic, and most importantly, during some of Fergus’ most difficult times, Marsali was there as support.

We can always use that kind of love and support on a show that often gets dark, so perhaps it is time to start a fan petition demanding their return.
