The Winter King is a new drama airing on the little-known streaming service MGM+. Based on The Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell, it tells the story of a young man named Derfel, who works to get into the service of King Arthur, the man of myth and legend.
Some of the backdrops on The Winter King are gorgeous. Where was the show filmed? We’re going to tell you.
According to Ready Steady Cut, The Winter King was filmed entirely in England. For a show about King Arthur, we’d expect nothing less. But where exactly in England?
Where in England was The Winter King filmed?
The bulk of the show was filmed at Patchway Studios at 1 Highwood Road in Bristol, a city in the south of England. “Patchway Studios was our home for eleven months, and the local community couldn’t have been more welcoming,” said Bad Wolf Productions studio manager Lizzy Ralph.
However, The Winter King was also filmed on location in several areas, including:
- Part of The Winter King was filmed on the Blaise Castle Estate in Henbury, in Bristol.
- Part of the show was shot in the town of Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire, southeast of Bristol.
- Other parts were filmed in the town of Lydney in Gloucestershire, England, on the west bank of the River Severn in the Forest of Dean District. That one’s north of Bristol.
So basically, if you want to do a set tour for The Winter King, you can’t go wrong staying in Bristol. New episodes of The Winter King drop on MGM+ on Sundays.
