Batman and Catwoman’s dynamic was a standout part of Batman Returns; Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer had chemistry for days. Pfeiffer is regarded as one of the best actors to ever play Catwoman, and it’s impossible to think of anyone else playing the part opposite Keaton, which is why it’s so surprising to learn that Keaton wanted her nowhere near Batman Returns.

Why? Well, it turns out that Keaton and Pfeiffer had a flash-in-the-pan fling prior to filming the follow-up to Tim Burton’s Batman. While the relationship ended amicably, the fling nearly cost Pfeiffer the role as Keaton was strongly against her casting and tried his best to get her kicked off the movie.

“To put a little fly in the ointment, Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer had previously dated and broken up,” actor Robert Wuhl revealed, per Collider. “At the time, Michael told me he was trying to get back with his ex-wife. Keaton was firmly, and underline firmly, against that casting of Pfeiffer.”

Keaton was apparently so set against Pfeiffer being involved that he “got into it” with producer Jon Peters. Ultimately, Keaton’s request was shut down and he would go on to make cinematic history alongside Pfeiffer.

Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer dating history

While Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer definitely sparked dating rumors after their performances in Batman Returns thanks to their incredible onscreen chemistry, the pair only dated before filming the movie and were never linked after. The pair were romantically linked in 1988, dating for roughly five months before parting ways.

Are Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer friends?

Despite playing two of the most iconic characters in DC history together, it seems Michael Keaton and Michelle Pfeiffer aren’t exactly close friends. This isn’t exactly shocking. How many of us can say we’re still good friends with all of our exes?

While Keaton and Pfeiffer don’t appear to be close friends, they are friendly acquaintances and there doesn’t seem to be any particularly bad blood between the pair.
