The Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan have been around for decades; the first; The Eye of the World, came out in 1990. Despite their longevity, it’s only recently that someone decided to turn them into a TV show. That someone is Amazon and that TV show is The Wheel of Time.

The second season of the show has gotten a pretty warm reception among fans. If you’re enjoying it, you may be curious about Jordan’s original books. Are they worth reading for fans of the show?

The short answer is yes. These are books that have stood the test of time and are still read by people today. However, there are some things to consider before diving in.

Are The Wheel of Time books worth reading?

One thing you should know about The Whee of Time books is that there are a lot of them, and they are long. There are 14 books in the main series, plus a prequel that follows the adventures of Moiraine Damodred years before we meet her in The Eye of the World. That’s a big commitment.

To give you an idea of just how much book series there is to read, Robert Jordan died partway through. The final three books were written by Brandon Sanderson, based on Jordan’s copious notes. But if you’re willing to take the plunge, you’ll find a lot to like. Not only that, but much of what Jordan writes is different from what we see on the screen. It’s really two parallel stories; there are a lot of similarities, but enough differences so that reading the original source material won’t feel too redundant.

Or if you’d rather just stick to the show, new episodes air on Fridays on Amazon Prime Video.
