New episodes of Loki are just around the corner! This is the first time that one of Marvel’s TV shows on Disney+ is being given a second season, and there are a lot of eyes on it.
When last we left Loki, he had gotten mixed up in a time-traveling catastrophe at the TVA, which is in charge of making sure the multiverse doesn’t spin off its access. Or was in charge of that. It’s hard to tell what’s happening now.
That said, we do have someone we’re against: Kang the Conqueror, a supervillain with many different faces in many different realities. In the second season of Loki, our heroes will be going up against a variant of Kang known as Victor Timely, a brilliant industrialist and inventor living in the early 1900s. Think of him as a supervillain version of Nikola Tesla.
Jonathan Majors will play a Kang variant in the second season of Loki
This is exciting, because Majors is a rising talent who already has a big presence in the MCU. But it’s also tricky, because he’s been involved in legal troubles lately. He’s due back in court very soon and may face trial for harassment and assault.
What do Majors’ legal problems mean for Loki? It’s not really clear yet. I get the idea that Disney is waiting to see how people react to the new season. When speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Kevin Wright kept the discussion to Majors’ character. “Victor Timely is somebody that we are very, very excited about,” he said. “When you look at Kang, he has a very funny comic backstory. He has all these iterations. Timely was one that we’ve always wanted to do in Loki. And I think we’re really excited about how that integrates into the season. It’s a big part of the show.”
We’ll see how that goes when Loki season 2 premieres on October 6. And Victor Timely isn’t the only important new character we’ll meet…
Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan joins cast of Loki as TVA tech guy OB
Ke Huy Quan, who won an Oscar for his performance as Waymond Wang in the breakout hit Everything Everywhere All At Once, is coming on board Loki as OB, who serves as the all-purpose tech guru at the TVA. “His job is basically every piece of tech, every computer, every thing that is running at the TVA,” Wright said. “He either designed it, or he fixes it and keeps it running.”
Marvel casting director Sarah Halley Finn reached out to Quan after catching an early screening of Everything Everywhere All At Once, figuring that they need to lock this guy down before his inbox was flooded with offers. But Finn didn’t have to work hard; turns out Quan had been waiting for this call. “I’ve been fantasizing about this for many, many years, all the way back to when the first Iron Man came out,” the actor told EW a while back. “I saw all the movies in the theaters. I’ve seen all the films. I constantly watch on YouTube how passionate and enthusiastic these fans are.”
We’ll see how this all comes together when Loki season 2 premieres next month. “We made a weird show , and people responded to how weird it was,” Wright said. “So, we wanted to push it further.”
