Our Flag Means Death came out on HBO Max last year and quickly found a devoted fan base who loved its offbeat sense of humor, the setting on the high seas during the golden age of piracy, and the unabashedly emotional love story between its two lead characters: “gentleman pirate” Stede Bonnet and fearsome murderer Blackbeard.
Now the crew is back, including Rhys Darby as Stede and Taika Waititi as Blackbeard. Last we saw them, they had either had a brutal breakup or a tragic misunderstanding, depending on who you ask. Stede is ready to make up, but Blackbeard was so hurt that he returned to his life of brutal crime. Will they reconcile? Watch the trailer:
The answer is “probably,” but we’ll find out the particulars when Our Flag Means Death returns on October 5. The first three episodes will drop all at once on Max.
Our Flag Means Death season 2 release date
One of the distinguishing features of the first season of Our Flag Means Death was how staggeringly gay it was. There is a ton of LGBT+ representation on this show, which I imagine was part of the reason it gained such a passionate following.
That will continue in season 2, and not just with Stede and Blackbeard. As proof, I offer this shot of seven-foot-tall pyromaniac Wee John Feeney — played by Kristian Nairn, whom Game of Thrones fans will remember as Hodor — in full drag:
Werk queen. That is all.
