Every time a new John Wick movie comes around, Keanu Reeves absolutely destroys his body by throwing himself into action scenes that would make stunt performers half his age shrink in fear. I know that I personally can’t forget that scene in John Wick 4 where he climbs that huge staircase in Paris only to get kicked down 40 flights.

His insurance premiums must be so high…

Anyway, performing stunts like that is as hard as it looks, as producer Basil Iwanyk revealed to Collider. “After the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th movie, making these films is so exhausting and it destroys Keanu, physically and emotionally,” Iwanyk said. “By the end, he’s always like, ‘I can’t do this again,’ and we agree with him. The guy is just a shell of himself because he just goes off and goes for it. He was like, ‘I wanna be definitively killed at the end of this movie.’”

Is John Wick definitely dead?

If you watched John Wick 4, you know that John did indeed die at the end, killed in a duel that resolved his conflict with the High Table.

…but will that death stick? We saw a coffin but no body. Meanwhile, the John Wick franchise is only expanding. There’s a TV show called The Continental coming to Peacock, a movie spinoff called Ballerina, and yes, John Wick 5 in development.

So John Wick may have died in his latest movie, but I wouldn’t say his death is definitive. “We were like, ‘You know, we’ll leave a 10% little opening,’” said Iwanyk.
