In the world of The Wheel of Time, some of the most powerful people around are the Aes Sedai, woman who can channel, aka access the One Power, aka use magic. The Aes Sedai divide themselves up into seven groups, called Ajahs: there’s the Blue Ajah, the Green Ajah, the Yellow Ajah, the Red Ajah, the White Ajah, the Gray Ajah and the Brown Ajah. Each Ajah has a different speciality. The Yellows are good are healing, the Greens are magic-wielding warriors, the Browns are nerds who like books, etc.
But wait! In the latest episode of The Wheel of Time, we heard about another Ajah: the Black Ajah. Verin and her fellow Brown sister Yasicca talked about it. Apparently it’s something that the Aes Sedai hear rumors about, but not everyone knows that it really exists.
So what exactly is the Black Ajah? Let’s get into it.
Who are the Black Ajah in The Wheel of Time?
To put it simply, the Black Ajah are Aes Sedai who are evil. Aes Sedai in the Black Ajah have forsaken the Three Oaths that all Aes Sedai must swear (not to lie, not to make a weapon that one man may use to kill another, and not to use the One Power as a weapon except in life-threatening circumstances or to kill Shadowspawn) and sworn themselves to the Dark One, the embodiment of all evil in this world.
So yeah, the Black Ajah are bad. And we found out in the most recent episode of the show that Liandrin, supposedly a member of the Red Ajah, is actually of the Black, which is why she was able to use the One Power to knock out Egwene, Nynaeve and Elayne. Also selling them into slavery wasn’t very nice.
So the Black Ajah are real, they suck, and they’re out to get our heroes. Expect to see more of them as new episodes of The Wheel of Time drop every Friday.
