Once upon a time in the 1990s, there was a boy band called NSYNC, made up of Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone and Justin Timberlake. They’re releasing their first new song in 20 years, “Better Place,” for Timberlake’s new movie Trolls Band Together, coming out on September 29. While they’re at it, they’re promoting themselves on shows like Hot Ones, where they reminisce about their glory days.

NSYNC was huge back in the day, big enough to land cameo roles in major movies like 2002’s Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. Or at least a few of them did. Timberlake and Bass. “Me and Lance were so butthurt,” Timberlake remembered.

If I had to guess, I’d say that Timberlake and Bass — who were the most popular members of the band at the time — weren’t available for a Star Wars cameo because they had other commitments, but it’s nice of Timberlake to act like they just weren’t invited. And in any case, the footage ended up getting cut.

“They put us in the wardrobe — I had a Padawan tail,” Fatone remembered. “[George Lucas came out and directed us, which was really cool. Somebody was taping this, so I asked [producer] Rick McCallum, ‘How do I get this footage?’ He’s like, ‘Ah, I can’t give it to you.’ So there’s actual footage of it.”

“Let’s get that footage, please. I want to see it,” Fatone added. I’m sure millennials online would appreciate that.

The Dark Knight writer wrote a screenplay for a Star Wars movie for director Guillermo del Toro, and we’ll never get to see it!

As long as we’re talking about Star Wars dreams that will never be, The Dark Knight writer David S. Goyer recently revealed on an episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he wrote an unproduced Star Wars movie for none other than Guillermo del Toro, the director behind classics like Pan’s Labyrinth and The Shape of Water.

Goyer said this happened “about four years ago” and that it was a “cool script.” Then del Toro himself weighed in on Twitter, saying only that the movie involved the letters “J” and “BB.”

This can only mean one thing: that Guillermo del Toro was on tap to direct a movie about Jabba the Hutt, the giant slug gangster from Return of the Jedi. That sounds incredible and I am genuinely sad it didn’t happen.

Spider-Man’s cameo was cut from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Okay, now we’re expanding the post beyond Star Wars dreams that will never be to include dreams of other Disney properties that will never be. Mondays are all about regret.

Speaking to LRM Online a while back, veteran Marvel costume designer Graham Churchyard revealed that Spider-Man (Tom Holland) was supposed to have “a very brief cameo appearance” in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, but it didn’t happen:

"Spider-Man: No Way Home was supposed to come out after Multiverse [of Madness] and then with COVID scheduling it came out before. So Doctor Strange and his new costume and America Chavez were supposed to go into Spider-Man [No Way Home], and Spider-Man was supposed to come into – for very a brief cameo appearance – into ‘Multiverse [of Madness]’. But then COVID just shook it all up."

Blasted COVID.
