Who are the new Rick and Morty voice actors? Are they AI?

The other day, Adult Swim dropped the trailer for the seventh season of its edgy sci-fi comedy Rick and Morty, about an amoral super-genius scientist and his hapless, increasingly jaded grandson. Watch below:

The new season has drawn a lot of attention because Justin Roiland, the creator of the show and the man who voices both Rick and Morty, is no longer a part of it.  “Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland,” the network said in a statement earlier this year. This was related to Roiland facing domestic violence charges. Those charges were later dismissed, but the damage to Roiland’s reputation had been done.

That means that Roiland isn’t voicing Rick and Morty in the trailer above. The trailer includes a lot of lines of dialogue from Rick especially, probably to show off the new actors. They don’t sound exactly like the old voices — Rick’s voice isn’t quite as gravely, especially when he’s excited or angry — but they sound pretty good. But who are they?

The new voices for Rick and Morty are not AI

Well, one thing we know for sure is that Adult Swim has not replaced Roiland with AI clones. Writer Heather Anne Campbell confirmed as much on Twitter. “Also, the voices are not A.I.,” she wrote. Okay then.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Roiland has been replaced by two voice actors: one for Rick and one for Morty. But we don’t know who either of them are. Adult Swim is withholding their names for now. “We want the show to speak for itself,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “We believe in the strength of the season and our new voices and we want to preserve the viewing experience for fans.”

Rick and Morty season 7 premieres on Adult Swim on October 15. Presumably we’ll learn the identities of the new voice actors then.
