The Wheel of Time is speeding toward the end of its second season. After last week’s spectacular episode “Eyes Without Pity,” the anticipation is high for the penultimate episode of season 2, “Daes Dae’mar.”

Well, Wheel of Time fans, we’ve got something to help tide you over until the next episode airs! It’s our great pleasure to reveal an exclusive clip from “Daes Dae’mar,” featuring none other than Mat Cauthon (Dónal Finn). It looks like Mat will be seeing some interesting things in this upcoming episode:

Mat freaks out in clip from The Wheel of Time Episode 207, “Daes Dae’mar”

When last we saw Mat, he had just reunited with Rand (Josha Stradowski) in Cairhien, and they agreed to travel to Falme together to rescue Egwene (Madeleine Madden). The reunion was short-lived, however; after Min (Kae Alexander) revealed to Mat that she had seen him kill Rand in a vision, Mat made the decision to stand Rand up at the city gates and bail on the road trip to Falme.

Mat doesn’t look like he’s in Cairhien in this clip. Where in the world is Mat Cauthon, and what’s the deal with that drink he gulps down? Why is he hallucinating these visions?

We may not have the answer to these questions quite yet, but holy crap can we just talk about the hallucination of Mat hanging in the mirror? That’s a reference to a crucial part of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time novels which we won’t discuss for the sake of spoilers. I fully expect book fans to lose their minds over it.

This scene also features the return of Juliet Howland as Natti Cauthon, Mat’s mother who we met in season 1. She tells Mat he’ll be a “damn prick like him,” which is something she said to Mat during the season 1 premiere in reference to his morally dubious father.

There are plenty more intriguing things in this scene. Who’s being drowned in the bucket? Who’s the woman being stabbed in the back? And again, where exactly is Mat?

We’ll find out how Mat came to be in this situation and what lies ahead when The Wheel of Time Episode 207 drops on Prime Video later this week. “Daes Dae’mar” premieres on Friday, September 29 at 12:00 a.m. GMT.
