Amazon has yet to officially order a third season of Good Omens, the delightful series about an angel and demon who form an unlikely friendship over their millennia together after the Word. The first season was based on the 1990 Good Omens book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. The second was dreamt up mostly by Gaiman on his lonesome, while the third and final season is set to adapt the events of a never-written sequel Gaiman and Pratchett came up with before Pratchett’s death in 2015.
The show has developed a passionate fandom, and they haven’t liked waiting in limbo while Amazon makes up its mind about whether to renew the series. The Hollywood writers strike threw another wrench into the works; no one, including Gaiman, was getting anything done while writers marched on the picket lines demanding better pay, increased job security, and guardrails on the use of AI technology.
But now the writers strike is over and productions can start moving again! While we still don’t know if Good Omens is coming back for season 3, Gaiman did offer fans some hope on the social media app BlueSky.
Will Amazon make Good Omens season 3?
“Now that the strikes is over, are you gonna to start writing Good Omens Season 3?,” one fan asked Gaiman, according to TheWrap. He responded simply, “Yes.”
Another user asked a follow-up question: “Has it been renewed for a Season 3?” Quoth Gaiman “No, but I’ve been hired to write one.”
So while Amazon hasn’t officially renewed Good Omens, they have hired Gaiman to work on it, and a writer of Gaiman’s caliber and reputation doesn’t come cheap. We know Jeff Bezos has a wallet deep enough to fund 30 more seasons of Good Omens. C’mon, Jeff, open it up and make the fans happy.
