With the Hollywood writers strike at an end, studios are finally starting to look toward the horizon once more and plan out their next shows and movies. Things can’t start filming until the SAG-AFTRA actors strike also resolves, but in the meantime there’s plenty of work to be done, especially when you’re an enormous, ever-churning content machine like Marvel Studios.

Deadline reports that Marvel will begin holding meetings with prospective writers this fall about a new X-Men movie. Before Disney bought 20th Century Fox, X-Men was the most successful Marvel film franchise, spanning 10 films including the spinoff Wolverine series. Since the acquisition, fans have been dying to know how the X-Men will transition into the MCU.

According to Deadline, Marvel isn’t rushing to fill the writer position for their new X-Men movie; since no release date has been set for it yet, the studio can take its time to get everything in place. The outlet’s anonymous source claims it’s unlikely that Marvel will actually hire anyone until early 2024. Still, any movement is exciting when it comes to the prospect a new X-Men movie.

Marvel Studios is searching for a writer for a new X-Men movie!

Marvel has already dropped a few teases so far that the X-Men are on their way to the MCU. The first was the inclusion of Evan Peters as Quicksilver in WandaVision; Peters played the character in the Fox X-Men films, so his appearance was a wink to viewers. That one turned out to be a fakeout, and the wait continued.

Then Patrick Stewart appeared as Charles Xavier in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, albeit as a Xavier from another dimension who quickly got murdered by the Scarlet Witch. And there were mentions of mutants in both Ms. Marvel and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Marvel is taking its time with introducing the X-Men, but it definitely doesn’t want us to forget they’re coming.

Even without this new X-Men film, the mutants will soon be appearing in the MCU on both the big and small screens. An animated reboot of the classic ’90s X-Men cartoon, titled X-Men ’97, is coming to Disney+ sometime in 2024. We’re also expecting to see Deadpool 3 in 2024. That one stars Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, both reprising their iconic roles from the Fox era of X-Men.

Details for the new X-Men movie are being kept tightly under wraps for now, but we’ll be keeping our ear to the ground for more updates.
