The Umbrella Academy reveals release window for fourth and final season
By Dan Selcke
Since 2019, the superpowered Hargreeves family has been running hither and thither through space and time trying to prevent one apocalypse after another. It’s the least they can do, considering they’re usually the reason the world is ending in the first place. Next year, they’ll reunite one last time for the fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy.
We weren’t 100% sure that we would be getting The Umbrella Academy season 4 in 2024 — with the recent rash of strikes in Hollywood, nothing was guaranteed — but the show’s official Twitter X account confirmed as much the other day:
The Umbrella Academy is a fun show that never became an all-out mega-hit. It’s good that it will be getting a proper sendoff. However, the final season will be a little smaller in scope than fans are used to.
The Umbrella Academy season 4 will only have six episodes
The first three seasons of The Umbrella Academy had 10 episodes each, a good meaty amount. The fourth and final season will only have six episodes. “It’s true. But you’re going to love them,” showrunner Steve Blackman told a fan.
That’s probably true, but it’s still a little disappointing to see the show get burned off like this. Then again, like I said, while The Umbrella Academy has its audience, it was never popular enough to justify enormous budgets and super-long seasons. Hopefully the ending will satisfy fans when it comes out next year.
