The Witcher season 5 will (probably) be the last
By Dan Selcke
The third season of The Witcher dropped on Netflix earlier this year, and we don’t care what anybody says, we enjoyed it!
That said, the future looks…weird. After playing title character Geralt of Rivia for three seasons, Henry Cavill is leaving the role. When the show returns for season 4, Liam Hemsworth will be playing Geralt.
If it weren’t for the writers and actors strikes, filming on season 4 would have started already. But things got delayed. However, now that the writers strike is over, work on season 4 has resumed, according to Redanian Intelligence. The actors strike is still in session, but let’s jump one hurdle at a time.
Liam Hemsworth will replace Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia starting in The Witcher season 4
Moreover, RI says that, according to what they’ve been hearing, after season 4, The Witcher will run for one more season and then end.
So far, The Witcher has adapted of four of Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher books: The Last Wish, Sword of Destiny, Blood of Elves and The Time of Contempt. That leaves three more to fit into seasons 4 and 5: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow and The Lady of the Lake.
And that sounds about right to us. There’s no need to drag things out. According to RI, the plan is to film seasons 4 and 5 more or less back to back. Even with the delay caused by the strikes, that’s still the plan, although the cameras will start rolling later than usual.
As for the release date, Netflix was probably hoping to get season 4 out to us in 2024, but with the delay, that’s now extremely doubtful. More likely, we’ll see The Witcher season 4 in 2025 and season 5 in 2026.
