A new version of the Doctor Who theme song is coming!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Doctor Who is finally returning with three anniversary specials marking 60 years since the franchise started. Whovians have been waiting a very long time for this, and to think we are just weeks away from seeing David Tennant and Catherine Tate returning to the world of Doctor Who makes my heart beyond giddy.

We’re constantly learning new things about the highly anticipated anniversary specials, including that we’re getting a new version of the theme song! This usually happens whenever there is a new era of the series, and this time is no different.

According to RadioTimes, fans will be able to hear the new version of the theme song ahead of the anniversary specials on BBC Radio 2. More details follow below!

Doctor Who is getting an update to its theme song!

Doctor Who composer Murray Gold returned to create a new variation of the theme, which will be broadcast in the middle of October in the United Kingdom. As mentioned above, the broadcast will be heard on BBC Radio 2 and is set to be recorded during an event in Cardiff.

The symphony celebration will honor the contributions of three showrunners: Russell T. Davies, Doctor Who era since its revival in 2005.

The concert will also include two new musical themes made for Ncuti Gatwa — who will debut as the Fifteenth Doctor in 2024 — and his companion Ruby Sunday, played by Millie Gibson. Ruby’s theme is called, “The Life of Sunday”.

Doctor Who @60: A Musical Celebration can be heard in the UK on BBC Radio 2 and through the BBC Sounds app on Sunday, October 15th. There will also be a filmed broadcast that will air on BBC iPlayer at a date in the future.

If you live outside of the United Kingdom like me, then you’re probably wondering if you’ll be able to get in on this. There is no confirmation regarding this, as I’m not sure the app will work for those outside the UK.

If there are any updates on that front, we will most certainly let you know, but for now, hang tight and start counting down the days until Doctor Who graces our screens again.
