One Piece star Vincent Regan joins the Kingsguard in House of the Dragon season 2
By Daniel Roman
Filming on House of the Dragon may have wrapped, but the little birds are still chirping with plenty of news. Just this week, we learned that Resident Evil star Turlough Convery will play Lord Mooton in House of the Dragon season 2, and now there’s another exciting casting scoop to discuss. This time, it’s one of the actors from Netflix’s new One Piece live-action series who is making the leap to Westeros.
According to @housethedragons, actor Vincent Regan will appear in House of the Dragon season 2 as a member of the Kingsguard for King Aegon II. They even have a picture of him on set in full costume:
Luffy’s grandpa joins the Kingsguard in House of the Dragon season 2
“Confirmed: this member of King Aegon’s Royal Guard, who was seen filming HOTD in Cáceres, is actually actor Vincent Regan! Vincent is a renowned actor, known for One Piece, 300, Aquaman 2, Troy, Clash of the Titans, Snow White and the Huntsman,” @housethedragons wrote.
The images show a side-by-side for Regan with a picture taken in Cáceres, Spain of the actor walking down the street in a Kingsguard outfit. Cáceres is where House of the Dragon shoots a lot of outdoor scenes set in King’s Landing. There’s also a video of Regan wearing a Targaryen cap, specifically one with the green and gold coloring of a supporter of King Aegon II:
As for which Kingsguard knight Regan is playing, that’s an interesting question! Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel) serves as the Lord Commander of Aegon’s Kingsguard during the Dance of the Dragons civil war. The only other Kingsguard who serves Aegon that we’ve seen a lot of already is Ser Arryk Cargyll, played by Luke Tittensor. The remaining members of Aegon’s Kingsguard during the dance are:
- Ser Rickard Thorne, who becomes involved in a mob riot at Bitter Bridge later in the story.
- Ser Willis Fell, who takes Princess Jaehaera to Storm’s End following a particularly event we’ll probably see early in the season.
- Ser Marston Waters, who joins the Kingsguard very late in the Dance and is more relevant in the years that follow it.
- Ser Gyles Belgrade, who takes part in a scheme which gets him summarily executed in the aftermath of the war.
Out those options, Rickard Thorne or Willis Fell seem the most likely characters for Regan to play. It’s also possible that House of the Dragon will invent a new character who wasn’t part of George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood.
House of the Dragon season 2 is expected to air sometime in 2024. We’ll have our ear to the ground for more updates.
