4 questions the Star Wars: Ahsoka finale did not answer

What’s in the crates and why are they so important to Thrawn?

Before leaving Peridea, Grand Admiral Thrawn is seen loading thousands of crates onto his star destroyer. The crates are mentioned multiple times, but not once are their contents disclosed.

However, it is clear that they are important to Thrawn as he dispatches multiple troops to hold off Ahsoka, Sabine, and Ezra till all the crates are loaded onto the Chimaera.

Fans have speculated that the boxes look like coffins, presumably with corpses in them. The working theory is that Thrawn plans on raising a huge zombie army when he returns. We saw a preview of that in the show.

What is Baylan Skoll up to in Peridea?

Throughout the show, the fallen Jedi Baylan Skoll, played by the late Ray Stevenson, continues to look for a mysterious higher power on Peridea. By Episode 7, it is confirmed that he has no interest in Thrawn. Assisting Morgan Elsbeth in looking for the Admiral was only a means to an end.

In the finale, Baylan features in a single sequence: we see him standing on the outstretched hand of a massive statute of the Father, one of the Ones of Mortis.

The Ones, also called Mortis Gods, were first introduced in a three-episode arc in The Clone Wars. The story saw Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka Tano transported to the strange world of Mortis. Set outside regular time and space, it was home to the three omnipotent Force wielders: the Father, the Son, and the Daughter.

There are no mentions of the Mortis Gods anywhere else, except in a mural marking the entrance to the World Between Worlds in Rebels.

We don’t know what Baylan’s ultimate goal is yet, but we hope to find out. With Stevenson having passed away, there is also the question of whether the character will be recast. However, the reveal has sparked some interesting fan theories about his true intentions. The most popular one is that he is searching for Abeloth, the once-mortal woman who became a part of the Ones as the Mother.

How will Ahsoka and Sabine return?

The last and the most obvious unanswered question is how Ahsoka and Sabine return to their own galaxy. They were left behind, along with Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati, when Thrawn left in the Eye of Sion.

There are many theories floating around. Some say they will be helped by the Force or the Force Ghosts of former Jedis, while others think they will find a portal or a path created by the Night Sisters.

One interesting theory is that Peridea is actually Mortis and Ahsoka would know her way home having been here once before. Alternatively, they could be helped out by the Purrgils once again.

What happened to Sabine’s Loth-cat?

Despite the characters struggling with more pressing concerns, Star Wars fans were extremely worried about Sabine’s Loth-cat whom she leaves behind in Lothal. Fans fell in love with it almost immediately, after it was shown waiting around for Sabine in her cabin to be fed.

Was it able to fend for itself after Sabine left? Surely there was someone around in Lotha to feed it and keep it company? Sadly, the show does not revisit the Loth-cat’s fate throughout the season.

However, Star Wars producers saw how much love the Loth-cat received and decided to go ahead and give the fans some reassurance. The franchise’s official accounts have now confirmed that the animal’s name is Murley and the ones babysitting it are…us, the fans.

Turns out Murley is safe, sound, and adorably asleep.
