The wait between seasons of Stranger Things is always a slog, but the wait for the fifth and final season has been particularly agonizing. As a result of the WGA writer’s strike (which is now resolved), progress on the final season was put on pause. Now, however, things are ramping back up again! But the actors strike continues.

The final season of Stranger Things will continue the trend of having a bigger budget, meaning bigger set pieces and a larger scope. There’s no doubt that the team will pull out all the stops to deliver something epic and worthy of concluding Netflix’s most popular show to date. We already know that ‘80s icon Linda Hamilton has joined the cast. Acclaimed Prey director Dan Trachtenberg is also on board to helm an episode.

Starring Amber Midthunder, Prey (2022) served as a prequel to the Predator franchise. It was a huge success, breathing life back into a franchise that many thought was destined to become a memory of blockbusters past. And its success has opened up the door for Trachtenberg to land his dream job of working on Stranger Things.

“I was prepping it before the strike and doing previews for sequences and stuff,” Trachtenberg told Collider. “It’s awesome! I’m doing it because I love that show so much. I think every season has gotten better and better and better, and this is the final one, and the Duffers are geniuses and good, really good dudes.”

While Trachtenberg can’t disclose any details about his episode, he teased the huge scale. “And this episode, that’s just ‘an episode’ of Season 5, has several awesome set pieces in it and it’s gonna be huge, man. It’s a big season, and, so far, so cool.”

In the season 4 finale of Stranger Things, our group of heroes was reunited in their small hometown of Hawkins, Indiana. In the final moments, the hellish Upside Down dimension seeped into the real world. Yikes!

Drone footage of the Stranger Things 5 set is being leaked online.

After so long on pause, it’s nice to see production heating up again. Granted, there’s not an awful lot of exciting stuff actually going on right now. Nevertheless, in a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), drone pilot ItsJaredFilm shared some aerial photos from the set. It looks to be of downtown Hawkins. There’s also a video.

The final season of Stranger Things doesn’t have a release date yet. Perhaps late 2024, maybe sometime in 2025.
