Kit Harington teams with Sherlock co-creator for new horror project
By Dan Selcke
It’s become tradition over at the BBC for Mark Gatiss, the co-creator of the show Sherlock, to make a short film to be released around the holidays. (They love their holiday specials in Britain.) According to Games Radar, his newest is Lot No. 249, based on the Arthur Conan Doyle story of the same name.
Lot. No 249 is about an Oxford University student who begins a series of experiments to breathe life back into an Egyptian corpse, which I can already tell you is a bad idea. Don’t wake mummies, people. Freddie Fox plays history student Edward Bellingham while Game of Thrones veteran Kit Harington (Jon Snow) plays university athlete Abercrombie Smith, who will probably get killed by the mummy after casually playing with the body and teasing everyone else about how scared they are. You can see it, can’t you?
At 36 years old, is Harington too old to play a college athlete? Maybe he got held back. Expect Lot No. 249 to come out around December.
See Lena Headey in the trailer for her new sci-fi show Beacon 23
What else are Game of Thrones veterans up to? I’m glad you asked. Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) is starring in a new sci-fi drama called Beacon 23, based on a novel of the same name by Silo creator Hugh Howey. This isn’t a short film. This is a full-blown TV show. Check out the trailer below:
I like the soundtrack to this trailer. Beacon 23 begins with Headey’s character, Aster Calyx, waking up on a space station. From there, mystery and intrigue ensues.
I think we can all agree that Lena Headey deserves to lead her own TV show. Beacon 23 premieres on MGM+ on November 12.
Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (Gregor Clegane) is expecting a new baby
Meanwhile, in personal news, Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson — who played Gregor “the Mountain” Clegane on Game of Thrones — announced that he and wife Kelsey Henson are expecting a new baby. He even posted the pictures to prove it:
Congrats! Is the child of the Mountain called the Hill? Think about it.
Emily Carey to star in horror thriller Walk With Me
And because Game of Thrones veterans aren’t the only actors from Westeros anymore, let’s check in on Emily Carey, who played the younger version of Alicent Hightower in the first season of House of the Dragon. According to Movieweb, she’s signed on to play the lead in the new horror thriller Walk With Me. (Which is a European production not operating under a SAG contract, so rules regarding the current actors strike don’t apply.)
In Walk With Me, Carey plays Ellie, a teenager who struggles to connect with her emotionally distant father. Things get even more difficult when she and her dad go to live with her father’s new girlfriend Fiona, who Ellie’s dad seems to care about a lot more than her.
And also Ellie starts having terrifying nightmares about a Celtic monster known as a Washerwoman, so that can’t be great. Walk With Me is hoping to start shooting in 2024.
