The waiting time between seasons of Stranger Things has always been agonizing. The show has faced many delays during its run, whether filming was shut down due to the pandemic or put on pause due to the writers and actors strikes in Hollywood.
But now the WGA writers strike has ended, and it’s only the actors of SAG-AFTRA who are seeking a better deal. Once this is resolved, the entire industry will begin ramping up production again. Stranger Things director Shawn Levy has been stuck waiting for a number of his projects to get back up and running. This includes Deadpool 3 as well as Stranger Things, which he hopes will get rolling sooner rather than later.
“I can say that we are hoping to start filming as soon as possible. We really need the actor’s strike resolved first. have been hard at work since the writer strike ended,” Levy told The Wrap. “It has exceeded all our expectations. We’re very excited to share that with the world. We are raring to go — our cast, our crew. Everyone not only needs to get back to work because we have many hundreds of crew members who have not been able to make a living since the strikes began, but we will be shooting very shortly after the actor’s strike ends.”
Everyone might be raring to go, but they are also keen to wrap it up. Take Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), who is very ready to move on to the next stage of her career.
Stranger Things 5 doesn’t have a release date yet. Hopefully things become clearer when filming is up and running again. Perhaps we’ll be watching sometime in late 2024 or early 2025.
A Stranger Things play is opening in London soon!
While the TV show may be stalled, the Stranger Things franchise is expanding into other mediums. A play called Stranger Things: The First Shadow, which follows characters like Joyce and Hopper when they were growing up, is heading to the London stage. And the play may hold a few hints of what to expect in the final season.
“We’re busy on a bunch of fronts because we also have our ‘Stranger Things’ play opening in London imminently. It’s fabulous. It’s f–king awesome,” Levy said.
Stranger Things: The First Shadow begins previews at the Phoenix Theater on November 17 and opens on December 14. If fans can make it, this play seems like the perfect way to help with Stranger Things withdrawal — and if anyone can’t make it, there’s still dozens of novels and comics based on the franchise either out or on the way.
