The second season of House of the Dragon has officially wrapped filming. We won’t get to see the new episodes until next year, but we’re getting lots of new information about minor characters who will appear. Like Game of Thrones before it, House of the Dragon has a huge cast. It was already big in season 1, and it will only grow in season 2 as the war between Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) and her half-brother Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) heats up.

So who will we meet in season 2? Let’s start with a couple of new characters from Houses Blackwood and Bracken, two families from the Riverlands who are locked in a feud so old few remember what it was originally about. The Blackwoods and Brackens didn’t get much play on Game of Thrones, but House of the Dragon went viral with a scene from the fourth episode, where characters named Willem Blackwood and Jerrel Bracken are both trying to win the hand of young Rhaenyra Targaryen. If you recall, they get into a fight, with Jerrel Bracken coming out very much the loser:

According to Redanian Intelligence, House of the Dragon season 2 will introduce characters named Amos Bracken and Davos Blackwood. Amos Bracken is a character from George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, but it sounds like Davos Blackwood is a new character invented for the show.

During the Dance of the Dragons, House Bracken supports King Aegon and his greens, while the Blackwoods declare for Queen Rhaenyra and her blacks. Expect these houses to continue their centuries-old rivalry when House of the Dragon returns.

One Piece veteran Vincent Regan may play Ser Rickard Thorne of the Kingsguard

A while ago, we reported that Vincent Regan — who recently played Monkey D. Luffy’s grandfather in Netflix’s One Piece show — was joining the second season of House of the Dragon as a member of the Kingsguard. Now, RI reports which one: he may be playing Ser Rickard Thorne, the ancestor of Ser Alliser Thorne of the Night’s Watch, whom we met on Game of Thrones.

During the Dance of the Dragons civil war, some members of the Kingsguard side with King Aegon while others support Queen Rhaenyra. Ser Rickard Thorne supports King Aegon and his greens, as you can tell by the hat Vincent Regan is wearing.

Triarchy agent Sharako Lohar will appear in House of the Dragon season 2

Moving right along, RI also reports that we’ll see Sharako Lohar in House of the Dragon season 2, although we’re not sure who will play him. Sharako is from the Free City of Lys on Essos. You’ll recall that, in season 1, Daemon Targaryen and Corlys Velaryon fought against the Triarchy, a military alliance between the cities of Lys, Myr and Tyrosh. Daemon defeated the Triarchy’s agent the Crabfeeder. But the Triarchy is still out there, and they haven’t forgotten their defeat at the hands of Daemon Targaryen.

In Fire & Blood, Sharako Lohar is an admiral who leads a fleet of Triarchy warships. He’s involved in a major sea battle called the Battle of the Gullet. We’re not 100% sure whether we’ll see the Battle of the Gullet in House of the Dragon season 2, but Sharako’s presence hints that the show will at least be setting it up.

Abubakar Salim (Alyn of Hull) shows off House of the Dragon swag

And those are some of the new characters we’ll meet in House of the Dragon season 2. There are other new characters we already knew about like Alyn of Hull, a young man who has a connection to House Velaryon. He’ll be played by Abubakar Salim (Raised By Wolves), who took to Twitter to show off some of the swag he and other cast members got after filming was completed:

We’ll also get to know Alicent Hightower’s older brother Gwayne Hightower, played by Freddie Fox. Here’s him and Fabien Frankel (Ser Criston Cole) riding around the House of the Dragon set in their armor:

So there are a lot of new cast members coming our way. We’ll meet the lot of them when House of the Dragon season 2 premiers on HBO and Max sometime in the summer of 2024.

Next. Emma D’Arcy: House of the Dragon is about “really angry blonde people”. dark
