Now Patrick Stewart says that Tom Hanks is a massive Star Trek fan
By Dan Selcke
For those who don’t know, Sir Patrick Stewart — the acting icon who’s been playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the Star Trek franchise since the ’80s — has a new memoir out: Making It So: A Memoir. The book has all kinds of stories from his long career on stage and screen. It also has the tea on which celebrities are Trekkies.
That list includes some pretty big names. According to CinemaBlend, Stewart writes confidently that Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump himself, loves that final frontier:
"Then there are the famous fans. Tom Hanks has told me he knows all the TNG episodes by name, so obsessively has he watched them."
For the record, there are 178 episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Hanks must have been mainlining this series from Big all the way through Saving Private Ryan. According to an interview he once did on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Hanks wanted to be in the 1996 movie Star Trek: First Contact, but an offer was never made to him. Well, that’s why you’ve gotta hustle for it, Forrest.
Patrick Stewart has it on “good authority” that Frank Sinatra loved Star Trek
And Hanks is far from the only (allegedly) famous Trekkie out there. According to Stewart’s memoir, none other than singer Frank Sinatra was a fan:
"I have it on good authority that Frank Sinatra, of all people, was a devoted viewer. I only wish I could have heard his reasons why."
Sinatra died in 1998, four years after the end of The Next Generation, so he got to experience the whole thing. Phew.
There are other stories in this book that don’t involve revealing which famous people love Star Trek, but there is at least one other notable one:
