The second season of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel sho House of the Dragon has wrapped filming. We’re due to see it sometime in the summer of 2024, which is still a ways off. In the meantime, fans are creating all sorts of cool posters, artwork, and even animated short films. Check out this season 2 poster by Ertaç Altınöz, which depicts King Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) alongside his dragon Sunfyre, said to be the most beautiful dragon in the world:
In George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, after he is coronated as king, Aegon mounts Sunfyre and rides around King’s Landing. In House of the Dragon, that part is cut; instead, Rhaenys Targaryen bursts through the floor of the Dragonpit on her dragon Meraxes. It’s possible some fans were as nettled as I was about this change, because there’s quite a lot of Sunfyre art out there:

Give us our beautiful golden dragon, show!

Some fans have gone above and beyond and even made short animated films featuring Sunfyre, like this one made with the Unity game engine:
King’s Landing looks great! I would have loved to see Aegon and Sunfyre fly around like this on the show. Okay, I’ll try to less bitter and drop this. By all accounts, we will definitely see more of Sunfyre in season 2.
This next video, also made in Unity, includes not just Sunfyre by also Dreamfyre and Vhagar, the dragons flown by Aegon’s siblings Helaena and Aemond respectively:

Finally, just so this post isn’t all about the greens, I present to you Anastasia Ivanova’s lovely rendering of Daemon Targaryen as played by Matt Smith:
We’ll see all of these people and dragons in action when House of the Dragon returns for season 2. See you next summer.
