We’re getting new rumors about the second season of House of the Dragon, HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel show. According to the Twitter account @housethedragons, two important characters from George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood will not appear in House of the Dragon season 2: Nettles and Daeron Targaryen.
Daeron Targaryen is the youngest son of King Viserys I Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. In the books, he’s being fosters at Oldtown, far away from King’s Landing, which could account for why we didn’t see him in the first season of the show. Still, the fact that he wasn’t even mentioned in the first season of the show makes me wonder if he will indeed show up.
Nettles is a peasant girl who lives on the island of Dragonstone. In the book, she is one of several people who answer a call put out by Rhaenyra Targaryen to try and tame wild dragons in exchange for lands and titles. She ends up being one of four “dragonseeds” who successfully do this.
Is Nettles in House of the Dragon season 2?
So are these two characters cut? Well, to start, this is a rumor; we don’t have official confirmation, and probably won’t until we’re watching the new episodes sometime in the summer of 2024.
That said, I wouldn’t be too shocked if Daeron were cut. But I have a very time believing they would cut a character as interesting as Nettles. She has a really fun arc in the book that I’d love to see play out on TV. Even if she doesn’t appear in season 2, I hope she turns up in the third season down the line.
