Jason Momoa returns to host Saturday Night Live on November 18
By Dan Selcke
Since his days as Khal Drogo on the first season of Game of Thrones, Jason Momoa has blown all the way up. He’s Aquaman in the Aquaman movies, he’s the new villain in the Fast & Furious movies, and he’s about to be a two-time host of Saturday Night Live!
The last time Momoa hosted SNL was in 2018, the same year that the first Aqauman movie came out in theaters. That episode gave us Game of Thrones sketches like this one, where Khal Drogo appeared on a Dothraki public access show:
Game of Thrones is a few years gone at this point, so I doubt we’ll see another Drogo sketch when Momoa returns to Saturday Night Live on November 18, but you never know. More likely we’ll see something involving Aquaman. The long in-in-coming next Aquaman movie, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, comes out in theaters on December 22.
The musical guest for Momoa’s episode will be McRae, a Canadian singer and So You Think You Can Dance finalist who went viral on TikTok with songs like “One Day” and “You Broke Me First.”
Saturday Night Live took some time off as the writers and actors went on strike in Hollywood. The writers strike ended several weeks back, clearing the way for new SNL episodes. The actors strike is still going on, but it doesn’t bar actors from doing live sketch comedy, apparently.
Since the lights have come back on, hosts have included Pete Davidson, Bad Bunny and Nate Bargatze. This weekend, the host will be Timothée Chalamet, who would be promoting Dune: Part 2 if that movie hadn’t gotten delayed into 2024 thanks to the strikes. The Saturday after that, Momoa will take the stage.
