Doctor Who has been off the air for a minute, but it’s about to return with a vengeance. First up, David Tennant — who played perhaps the most beloved Doctor of the show’s modern era — will appear in three specials, alongside companion Donna Noble, played once again by the hilarious Catherine Tate. Then there will be a holiday special that will give us a proper introduction to the next new Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, along with his companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson).

A recent tweet from the official Disney+ Twitter account seems to confirm the title and release date of the holiday special: “Doctor Who Holiday Special: The Church on Ruby Road” will release on December 25.

If the special actually does come out on December, it will be the first Doctor Who holiday special to come out on Christmas Day since 2017’s “Twice Upon a Time,” according to Radio Times.

All the Doctor Who specials coming out in 2023

With this update on the holiday special, we can now make a full calendar of new Doctor Who episodes coming out this year:

  • November 25: “The Star Beast”
  • December 2: “Wild Blue Yonder”
  • December 9: “The Giggle”
  • December 25: “Doctor Who Holiday Special: The Church on Ruby Road”

Once again, those first three episodes will star David Tennant and Catherine Tate as the Doctor and Donna. Gatwa will probably show up as the Fifteenth Doctor somewhere in there before taking over the role in the holiday special, which will likely introduce us to new companion Ruby Sunday.

And then, in 2024, we’ll get an all-new season of Doctor Who with Gatwa and Gibson carrying the series into the future. There are big things ahead of Doctor Who, which will air on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in Britain and on Disney+ everywhere else.
