It’s officially happening: The CW has decided to end Superman & Lois after its upcoming 10-episode fourth season. The cancellation of this series will mark the end of The CW’s series of DC shows that began with Arrow back in 2012, which is strange to wrap my head around.

It’s been 11 years since the Arrowverse began. Soon enough, it will all be over. It’s certainly a new chapter, isn’t it?

Superman & Lois season 4 will air in 2024, hopefully. That could depend on how long the Hollywood actor’s strike continues to go on. The timeline is subject to change depending on the outcome of the strike, so stay tuned!

Superman & Lois is hanging up its cape after four seasons

The CW’s President of Entertainment, Brad Schwartz, shared a statement regarding the end of Superman & Lois:

"Over the last three seasons, Superman & Lois redefined both the superhero genre and family drama as Tyler, Elizabeth and the entire cast effortlessly portrayed these classic characters with new layers of depth and complexity that had never before been explored in the Superman universe. We are grateful for the years of hard work and graceful storytelling from the show’s writers, producers, actors and crew, as well as our terrific partners at Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions. As Superman embarks on his final flight, the team is leaving us with an absolutely epic 10-episode must-watch-every-minute farewell to one of the most legendary CW families ever."

It makes sense that the series is concluding, given what we’ve heard is going on behind the scenes. Before the strike, there were a series of budget cuts and some of the writers were let go, reducing the size of the writers room from eight to five. After its renewal this past summer, Superman & Lois also underwent cast reduction, which meant that many of those who were series regulars previously were no longer coming back in that same capacity. Only four of the 12 series regulars from season 3 are set to return in season 4: Tyler Hoechlin, Micheal Bishop, Alex Garfin and Bitsie Tulloch, aka the Kent family.

Superman & Lois is more visual effects heavy than your average CW show, which further pumped up the cost. But I will say one thing about all of this: despite all the cuts, it’s nice that Superman & Lois will be getting to say goodbye on its own terms. It always feels wrong when a show is canceled with no opportunity to finish the story. At least Superman & Lois will feel complete.

So sometime next year, Superman will take his final flight with his family members as Superman & Lois gets ready to bid farewell, once and for all.

Next. Rumor: SPOILER will appear in the first scene of House of the Dragon season 2. dark
