After a two-year wait, Invincible season 2 is finally here, folks! The new episodes have gone down immensely well among critics and casual viewers alike, but just as it’s getting started, we’re about to enter the midseason break, meaning no new episodes until early 2024.

The breaks are tough to endure when we’re so invested in the show, but thankfully, creator Robert Kirkman has assured fans that there will never be a wait as long as the one between seasons 1 and 2 ever again. Unlike live-action, producing animation takes a long time; it requires a degree of patience. Then there’s the long road of obstacles that this production in specific has faced, from the pandemic to writers and actors striking. With all of this having passed, Kirkman is confident that the production can be streamlined enough to reach his target of one season per year.

“I think that that would be the goal,” Kirkman told Collider. “I’ve said publicly, the gap between Season 1 and Season 2 are the longest gap we’ll ever have. I’ve seen people say, ‘oh, it’s gonna be three years for every season. This isn’t gonna work.’ But we don’t know, it’s a very hard production schedule, it’s a very tough show to produce. So, the goal is to try and get it as close to a season a year as we possibly can. I can’t guarantee that we’ll hit that.”

This isn’t just an Invincible problem; long production times are everywhere nowadays. “Like, name one show that comes out consistently every year because it’s like Stranger Things, House of the Dragon,” Kirkman continued. “I know that the pandemic delayed things a lot. But it seems like it’s harder and harder to get shows to come out every year.” The good news is that Prime Video promptly renewed Invincible up to season 4, so we don’t have to wait for it to get the green light every year. That means the team can get working on new seasons immediately.

Invincible season 2 is getting insane viewing figures!

Despite the long wait, viewers haven’t gone anywhere. Instead, the viewership has tripled between seasons 1 and 2. It’s nice to see a superhero show that isn’t from Marvel or DC achieve significant success. No streamer is doing it quite like Prime Video, which now has The Boys, Gen V and Invincible in its superhero lineup.

We have two more episodes of Invincible to go before the show takes a break. The final four episodes of season 2 are set to drop on Amazon Prime Video in early 2024. Keep them coming!
